The Hardwicke Players, a community theatre group, was founded in November 2004 by a close-knit group of friends: Claire Chapman, Steve Mills, Richard Edwards, Chris Sellars, and Chris Paterson. United by their shared enthusiasm for the performing arts and a deep commitment to enhancing their local community, they adopted the inspiring motto, “For the community, by the community.”

The primary goal of the Hardwicke Players is to cultivate and present original theatrical productions that resonate with and engage local audiences. By actively involving community members in a variety of roles—ranging from actors and directors to stage crew and set designers—we aim to foster a collaborative environment filled with creativity and artistic expression. In addition to promoting the arts, we are dedicated to giving back to our community by supporting Gloucestershire charities. Our performances and events strive to raise funds, and thus, we seek to enrich the cultural landscape of our area while making a meaningful difference in the lives of those in need.

Our inaugural production, “The Merchants of Gloucester,” debuted in January 2006. This performance was not just a creative endeavour; it also raised an impressive £900 for the Gloucester & District Branch of the Alzheimer’s Society. This success set the tone for our ongoing commitment to charitable contributions. Over the years, we have continually expanded our efforts, collectively raising over £3,000 for various local charities through our performances.

We are proud to showcase our work twice a year, and we are thrilled to be known as one of the resident groups by our supportive and vibrant home at the Kings Theatre in Gloucester. This venue allows us to reach a broader audience and further our mission of community engagement and charitable support.

The Hardwicke Players are continuously seeking new members and welcome anyone interested in joining us, whether on stage or behind the scenes. If you have a passion for theatre or feel inspired to be part of a community-driven artistic initiative, we invite you to reach out and connect with us. Your involvement can help us provide enriching experiences to our community!
